Smoothing out folds and wrinkles can make an enormous difference in a person’s appearance and even make them look several years younger. Dermal fillers are used to help reverse the signs of aging and provide patients with a more natural, youthful appearance compared to surgical face lifts. Dermal fillers are used to:
- Reduce or eliminate wrinkles
- Reduce the appearance of scars
- Enhance lips
- Enhance the contours of the face
There are a number of types of dermal fillers available today, including:
- Hyaluronic acid based fillers (e.g. Voluma, Juvederm, Belotero and Restylane)
- Calcium hydroxyl apatite fillers (e.g. Radiesse®)
Drs. Rubin and Reddick will work with you individually to determine the best filler for your individual circumstances. All injections are done by the physician. A topical cream may be used to numb the targeted area if desired. Then, using a small needle, the dermal filler will carefully be injected into each wrinkle or scar being treated. Patients can experience mild discomfort as the filler is being injected.
Side effects are very uncommon but bruising can occur around the treated areas. Results vary depending on the type of filler, but normally will last approximately six to eighteen months.
